hours and hours
day and days
there isn’t one of us
who will escape it
why, we’re all so young
so proud and innocent
with pious eyes
everyone forgiving us
our indecisions and woes
because we have
all the world before us
a young actor, a famous man
with a talent great
a smile wide and handsome
a nicer face we’d never seen
we watched the news
him carried out on a stretcher
his lovely face
death at 28
no one could believe it
with all the world before him
